PLOT
There's unrest in the 'verse. The rule of the Alliance, as much as they'd like to think otherwise, is not absolute. The Independents may have lost the war, but that doesn't mean they're ready to lie down just yet. There are heists, gunfights, killings, any kind of crime you can imagine, directed at the Alliance and happening every day. And it's not just that: the infamous fugitives, Simon and River Tam, are still at large, although only a select few officials even know what they're fugitives for. There are mysterious deaths, victims bleeding from every orifice, their faces twisted into expressions of unimaginable horror. The Reavers are pushing out further every year, making it more and more difficult for the Alliance to pretend they don't exist. Times are hard, and getting harder.
There's unrest on board Serenity, too. With the attack on their home by the bounty hunter Early behind them, the crew have to face the revelation that River Tam is a reader -- a psychic -- and presents a certain danger to them all. They always knew she wasn't quite right, but Mal let the Tams stay. Now he's seriously rethinking that sentimental notion.
Jayne, of course, couldn't be happier. He's been saying all along that they should have handed the siblings over to the feds -- matter of fact, he even tried that himself on one memorable occasion -- and now all Mal's doing is preaching to the choir. Simon and River ain't part of the crew. He wants them gone.
Naturally, Dr Tam has taken issue with that. All manner of Alliance and freelance agents are out to get River, and it's already been proven that they'll do whatever it takes to get at her, regardless of who stands in their way. River is a precious commodity, and Simon only has one thought in his mind: protecting her, the Captain's or anyone else's wishes be damned.
Meanwhile, Kaylee, normally the glowing light of optimism, is miserable. Not only has Inara made her choice to leave, but now her Cap'n wants Simon and River disembarking as well. As much as River may frighten her sometimes, as much as she's unstable as all get out, they're friends. And this comes just as Kaylee was starting to make headway with the doctor, too.
Zoe isn't one normally predisposed to sentiment, but marriage has grudgingly softened her. She doesn't like the idea of throwing the Tams to the wolves. But deep down she's still Corporal Alleyne, a Browncoat; she'll follow Mal come hell or high water. Partly because she's not entirely comfy with where these new warm-fuzzy feelings might be stemming from.
Wash has noticed this change in his wife as well, however subtle it is. Despite being married to her for a good while, he's not entirely convinced he understands her, and he's starting to fret about where her mind's at. Not to mention, his inner pacifist -- a dangerous thing to have in a line of work like his -- is stressing a great deal over their current situation. Not fun.
Offering to take the Tams back to the Companion Training House with her only served to earn Inara a big headache. Mal's still sore that she's leaving, not that she expected any less, and takes the chance to try and change her mind whenever he can. But Inara's resolute. She's going. She loves this ship, but she just can't do this anymore. It's too much.
Shepherd Book is perhaps the most at odds, save Simon, with the Captain's way of thinking, and his own. This way of life is changing him -- reverting him -- in ways that, frankly, terrify him. It has ever since he boarded, when he watched Mal coldly kill that fed. Book doesn't know his place on this crew anymore, or whether he even wants one.
And River...
Well, River's not quite sure what she's thinking; she never is. But just lately, the thoughts she doesn't understand have taken a decidedly darker turn...
Welcome to Firefly: Revelations, a role play set in Joss Whedon's much-beloved Firefly 'verse. The purpose of this game is to continue the lives and adventures of the crew of the Firefly-class transport Serenity, and the many other citizens of this lush and fully-realized collection of worlds. This is essentially our take on Firefly season two, if the show had been given the chance to last that long, and true to this, our storylines will be plotted and unfold in an episodic format, taking full advantage of the input of both our hard-working writing staff and our members in order to make FFR the best Firefly role play it can be.
